Policy: The After School Program is permitted by Session to hire individuals as employees or as contract laborers for the operation of this program. Hiring is done by the Director of Christian Education, with approval of the Discipleship and Fellowship Team and the pastor. The employment of those in the After School Program will be completely funded by the income from that program and not by the General Budget of the Church. As a separate category of staff, designated as "After School Program Staff," no benefits will be provided through the Board of Pensions. The Director of Christian Education will be the immediate supervisor of all After School Program Staff. The Church Administrator will be responsible for all employment practices, such as filing of proper forms, taxes, etc.
Rationale and comment: As we continue to develop the After School Program, hiring will be an issue. The After School Program comes under the Discipleship and Fellowship Team so they would be the logical committee to give approval, as they are closer to the program and are more aware of the issues than the Personnel Committee. It is important to name anyone working with the After School as a separate category, so as to reduce costs. Board of Pensions allows us to have as many categories of employment as we desire, but if one person in the category receives benefits, all in that category who work more than a set number of hours must receive benefits.
