POSITION
DESCRIPTION
TITLE: SEXTON
PURPOSE: Responsible for the cleanliness, routine maintenance, safety and sanitary conditions of the interior and exterior, of the buildings, equipment and grounds of Chapel by the Sea.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Accountable to the Head of Staff and the Administrator, with a dotted line reporting to the Building and Grounds Committee Chairman.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To properly maintain the safety, cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the Sanctuary, classrooms, offices, bathrooms, Chapel’s bus and fellowship (Silver) Hall and stage.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To properly maintain the safety, cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the Sanctuary, classrooms, offices, bathrooms, Chapel’s bus and fellowship (Silver) Hall and stage.
2.
To
provide routine maintenance of bathroom fixtures, kitchen equipment, sound and
projector systems, lighting systems and the heating and air conditioning
equipment. This routine maintenance
responsibility would also apply to the electrical, plumbing, heating and air
conditioning system of Chapel’s leased property and to scheduling, servicing
and any required maintenance of Chapel’s bus.
This responsibility also requires keeping maintaining and purchasing
parts and supplies upon counsel with and approval of the Head of Staff.
3. To prepare the Sanctuary and Silver Hall
for Sunday and Special Services prior to each such service, including but not
limited to, turning on the sound and projection system, unlocking the Sanctuary
and fellowship (Silver) hall and securing same after services and events each
Sunday.
4. To prepare Santcuary and fellowship
(Silver) hall for other scheduled events such as weddings and memorial services
and their receptions, if any, and Sunday luncheons. This does not include preparation for evening
events in fellowship (Silver) hall.
5. To
report any problems with Cghapel’s properties that require more than routine
maintenance to the Head of Staff and the Chairperson fo the Building and
Grounds Committee.
6. To ensure proper performance by outside
contractors hired to provide maintenance of Chapel’s property and grounds,
including without limitation driveway and parking areas, landscaping services
for all Chapel’s property and maintenance of lawn sprinkler systems.
7. To obtain two quotes of properly licensed
and insured contractors for any service or maintenance project that is expected
to exceed a cost, before taxes, of $1,000.00 and recommending the better of the
two offers in a timely manner to the Head of Staff.
8. To work closely with the Head of Staff,
the Chairperson of the Building and Grounds Committee and any volunteers
assisting in these responsibilities.
9. To perform other assigned duties as
requested by the Head of Staff, Administrator and Buildings and Grounds
Committee.
RELATIONSHIPS: Maintain professional demeanor in the ongoing interaction with the staff, Session members, congregation and visitors.
EVALUATION: Performance review will be conducted annually by the Head of Staff, at least two members of the Personnel Committee, the Chairperson of the Building and Grounds Committee, with input from the Sexton.
